Cachaça (“ka-shah-sa”) is the national spirit of Brazil, made from distilled sugar cane juice and corn flour. Cachaça is distilled directly from the juice of the unrefined sugar cane, unlike rum which is distilled from molasses left over after extracting the sugar. Before distillation, the juice ferments naturally from yeasts present in the air in a wooden or metal container for three weeks. Cachaça is distilled in such a way that the scent of the sugar cane remains.
Nose:
Fruity hints of banana, harmonised by the two wood types.
Palate:
Notes of sugar cane, dry corn, black pepper, banana, with a hint of freshly dug up potatoes, black pepper encased in notes of wood.
Finish:
Long lasting and pleasant.
Awards:
Double Gold Medal – San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2010. Gold Medal – Concurso de Bruxelas. Silver Medal – San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2009. Silver Medal – National Hyatt Cachaça Awards.
