Fernet-Branca was created in 1845 by Bernardino Branca in Milan, Italy. The brand has a long and storied history, with its recipe being a closely guarded secret that includes 27 different herbs, roots, and spices. Some of these ingredients are known, such as aloe ferox, bitter orange, chamomile, cardamom, cinchona bark, cinnamon, galangal, gentian, iris, laurel, linden, myrrh, zedoary, and saffron​.
