Hope Distillery, located in Cape Town, South Africa, is a pioneer in the craft spirits industry. Established in 2014 by Lucy Beard and Leigh Lisk, two former lawyers from London, the distillery was the first licensed small-batch distillery in Cape Town. It initially focused solely on producing gin but has since expanded its offerings to include small batch vodka, agave spirit, and rhum agricole, alongside a diverse range of gins.
Hope Distillery's Navy Uma Gin is a navy strength gin, which means it's bottled at a higher alcohol content, specifically 57% ABV. This gin is distinguished by its use of juniper and cubeb berries, offering a robust profile suitable for gin enthusiasts looking for intense flavors. This gin is also part of a limited edition with only 147 bottles produced, each hand-painted by artist Richard Scott, making it a unique collector's item.
Nose:
The aroma is marked by floral juniper notes, which are typical yet pronounced due to the gin's strength.
Palate:
The flavor is dominated by juniper, complemented by hints of pepper, adding a spicy edge to the gin's bold profile.
Finish:
It ends with a floral yet spicy finish, maintaining the strong character throughout the tasting experience.
