Lanner Hill Syrah

Selected from the Lanner Hill Farm in Darling, owned and grown by the Fairview Wines team. These trellised Syrah vines grow in deep red shale and granite soils with the proximity of the cool Western Coast cooling down the fruit in the afternoon. Cooler, maybe more elegant expression of the variety reminiscent of an old-world style, thus Syrah, not Shiraz.

After 18 months in barrels a barrel selection was made. The wine was bottled with minimal stabilization and filtration.

Picked at 22,5 – 23,5 ̊B to capture the cool climate and fresh style of the wine. 20% whole bunch clusters were added to the bottom of a Foudre. The rest of the grapes were destemmed, hand sorted and placed on top. Fermentation was allowed to start naturally with the indigenous yeast from the vineyard. Punch downs and pump overs are done up to three times daily. A total of 10 days before pressing. Malolactic fermentation took place in older French oak barrels.
