Since 1878 Fontanafredda Estate & Winery located in the heart of Piedmont's Langhe region has been a benchmark for Barolo and Barbera wines that deftly balance deep aromas and concentration of fruit with elegance. Among the prized vineyard sites belonging to Fontanafredda are those in the commune of Serralunga d'Alba a source of some of today's most distinctive and intriguing Barolo wines.

The vineyards are located on the hills of the Langhe. The vineyards lie on calcareous marl-rich soil, with a density of 4,200 plants/ha. The grapes are harvested during the first decade of October.

Fontanafredda Nebbiolo is aged in wood for at least 8 months and then in the bottle for 2-3 months. It will usually reach its peak within 3-4 years after the harvest, but this period can vary considerably depending on the vintage.

The fermentation takes place in a traditional way, with a 7-8 day floating cap fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature (28° C).
