Sangiovese Sigismondo

Le Rocche Malatestiane is located in Rimini on the Adriatic coast and has its wine production areas on the hills overlooking the sea. Le Rocche Malatestiane has always represented the wine producing roots of the Rimini area and it is with pride that since 1959 the company and its wines carry the name of the Malatesta family Signoria (nobles) of Rimini from the 13th to the 15th century.

The vineyards are situated around the Coriano (Rimini area) hills, at 100 meters a.s.l., not far from the Adriatic Sea. The soil is characterized by low clay-based topsoil rich in limestone and rocky subsoil. The vines are trained with the spurred cordon (70%) and Guyot (30%) systems. Harvest takes place around the end of September.

20% of the wine ages in large barrels while the rest gets refined in large cement vats for the duration of 1 year.

The grapes are destemmed, crushed and fermented on the skins for 12 days with the cap undergoing “delestage” ("rack and return").
