The name ‘King and I’ refers to the blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, King of red grapes, and Merlot. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this blend, are hand-selected from the top section of the Granietbult vineyard, and the Merlot comes from the Verlatenkloof bush vines, established in 1990.

The wine was matured in French oak barrels of which 50% new, for 18 months.

The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes spent three weeks on the skins during fermentation, while the Merlot spent four weeks on the skins during fermentation. Only free-run juice was used for this blend.
