Tenuta Aquilaia embodies the desire on the part of the Uggiano team to explore new challenges and horizons in their search for wine production excellence. The estate is located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, one on the most up-and-coming wine production areas in Italy. Overlooking sweeping horizons which encompass undulating hills of a thousand shapes and shades of colour, there, more than 2000 years ago, the ancient Etruscans dedicated their lives to making great quality wine. The dream of re-interpreting ancient traditions by growing ancient grapes - still found today in Maremma -and transforming them into wine with a modern approach, has now become a concrete reality thanks to Fabio, Daniele and Giacomo.

Tenuta Aquilaia is located in Scansano, part of the Grosseto province at the heart of Maremma area. The estate covers an area of 40 hectares, including 15 hectares of vineyard, in the Fosso Sanguinaio stream valley, close to where it meets the Albegna River.

The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks for 8 months prior to bottling.

The Etruscan people began cultivating Ciliegiolo grapes more than 2000 years ago, today this variety is highly appreciated for the aromatic intensity and the roundness of its wines. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented at a controlled temperature of 26°C with 15 days of skin maceration. Malolactic fermentation takes place immediately after the primary alcoholic fermentation.
