Deetlefs Wine Estate, situated in the picturesque Breedekloof (Rawsonville), is the second oldest wine estate in South Africa under ownership of the same family, established in 1822 and celebrated 200 years of existence in 2022. Age old family traditions passed through the generations and an intimate knowledge of every facet of this estate can be experienced in our handcrafted, classic styled wines.

The Deetlefs vineyards are established in the Western Cape at the foot of the Du Toitskloof Mountain range in the Breedekloof-area.It is these magnificent mountains that provide the early shadow formations and long cooling period at night. The vineyards benefit from the unique terroir on the banks of the Smalblaar River that forms the one border. Ideal conditions for enhancing the delicate and complex flavours in the grapes.

Viognier grapes was picked ripe for maximum varietal expression. Three different techniques were used (whole bunch pressed, oxidative, and skin ferment) to showcase different sides of Viognier). With the Chenin Blanc and Semillon reductive winemaking techniques were used. Focus of the Chenin Blanc is freshness and maximum tropical fruit expression and for the Semillon the focus is on a silky mouth feel and long rich citrus finish.
