Anthonij Rupert Wyne was founded on the farm L’Ormarins in Franschhoek. Originally owned by the late Anthonij Rupert who passed away in 2001 the farm was eventually taken over by his brother Johann Rupert in 2003 and the brand named after him. It was Johann Rupert who constructed a state-of-the-art winemaking facility catapulting the farm into a prestigious wine estate and the beginnings of what is now a sprawling enterprise. The focus is on terroir specific wines and therefore the ranges are made from a number of sites. Each site offers optimum varietal specific growing conditions allowing Anthonij Rupert Wyne to adhere to the requirements of their different brands.

The vineyard is located in the Western Cape's Breedekloof region, near the Du Toitskloof Mountain range. These magnificent mountains provide long, cool nights and early shadow formations. The vineyards benefit from the Smalblaar River's unique terroir, which allows for slower ripening and the development of delicate, complex flavours. In comparison to the preceding winter and spring, this Vintage was warmer and saw lower-than-average rainfall. Overall, the difficult drought conditions led to lower yields and smaller berries, which in turn led to wines with exceptional flavour and concentration.

The fortified wine was then racked into old French oak barrels for 6 years of maturation, allowing the flavours to blend harmoniously. Finally, it was hand-bottled, unfined and unfiltered.

The grapes were picked at 24 Balling and transported in refrigerated trucks to the cellar. The bunches were destemmed and placed in a stainless steel tank at a low temperature for three days of cold maceration before allowing spontaneous fermentation on the skins at 16 degrees Celsius. The grapes were pressed at 14˚ Balling, and the must was immediately fortified to approximately 17% alcohol by using 2015 Colombard spirits (62% alc) distilled on L'Ormarins the previous year.
