Critic & score
Marsanne
A white wine grape most commonly found in Northern Rhône, although often blended with Roussanne this varietal is used for both still and sparkling wine production. In Valais, Switzerland, Marsanne, known locally as Ermitage, is often made into a sweet wine. The grapes are prone to produce bland and neutral wines where the climate is too hot. Marsanne produces deeply coloured wines which are rich and nutty with hints of spice and pear, honey and quince become more prominent with ageing.
