The Vineyards of Meerendal covers an area of 50ha and consist of the noble varieties of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinotage, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, including our Heritage Block of Pinotage, planted in 1955. Our Wine Cellar dates back to 1943 when 20 original concrete fermenters were built. It has been modernised over the years and now includes stainless steel tanks, French Oak barrels and a state-of-the-art lab for onsite analyses.

Meerendal Estate has a Mediterranean climate in general with warm, dry, summers, but the prevailing South Easter provides cooling winds and the proximity to the Atlantic coast provides cooling mists in the early evenings and mornings. Winters are cold and wet with an annual rainfall on the estate of 580mm.

9 Months in barrel adds a depth and structure to the wine.

Pockets of grapes are selected from 2 locations; these pockets are then hand harvested at 22.8°Balling and brought into the cellar in 18kg lug boxes to minimise damage to the grapes. The grapes are destemmed and crushed and pressed. 100% of Fermentation takes place at 22˚C in Old 500L barrels to give a richness to the palate but keeping the oak characteristic subtle.
