The Vineyards of Meerendal covers an area of 50ha and consist of the noble varieties of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinotage, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, including our Heritage Block of Pinotage, planted in 1955. Our Wine Cellar dates back to 1943 when 20 original concrete fermenters were built. It has been modernised over the years and now includes stainless steel tanks, French Oak barrels and a state-of-the-art lab for onsite analyses.

Meerendal Estate has a Mediterranean climate in general with warm, dry, summers, but the prevailing South Easter provides cooling winds and the proximity to the Atlantic coast provides cooling mists in the early evenings and mornings. Winters are cold and wet with an annual rainfall on the estate of 580mm.

Matured for 9 months in oak barrels (24% new and 76% second/third fill).

Grapes were handpicked at 24,5 °Balling from a yield of 4-8 Ton/Ha. These grapes come from a single vineyard located on the mid slope of Dorstberg Mountain and is cooled by prevailing winds and seasonal mist in early mornings. Fermented in traditional open tanks taking 5 tons of grapes. Punch down 2 times daily.
