Montecarrubo is a boutique winery located on the remains of an ancient volcanic crater in Sicily, Italy. The estate was founded in 2005 by Peter Vinding-Diers, a renowned Danish winemaker, and his wife Susie. Montecarrubo focuses on crafting high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. The vineyards benefit from constant sea breezes and volcanic soil, which contribute to the distinct character of the wines. Montecarrubo produces a variety of wines, including blends of Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The wines are known for their vibrant flavours and elegant profiles. The winery uses traditional methods such as hand harvesting and fermentation in cement vats, followed by aging in old Pomerol barrels. Some of their notable wines include "Il Carrubo" and "Vignolo," which have received high praise for their complexity and richness​.

Vignolo is a single vineyard, situated in front of our House towards the Ionian Sea and the bay of Augusta. The plants we got from the Hermitage region on the Cote du Rhone, from a massal selection of syrah vines there. 2020 was a wonderful year for us. Nothing went wrong and the wines 'spoke' from the first day. I saw the same when I visited my friend Raoul Blodin who was cellar master at Mouton Rothschild inj 1982. He beamed at me, and told me to select whichever barrel I wanted to taste. It was a wonderful feeling, and when I stood in my cellar here in Sicily after the 2020 vintage, I thought of him and that magic moment.
