Mooiplaas Wine Estate and Private Nature Reserve is situated in the Westward reaches of the Stellenbosch Winelands, approximately 40km east of Cape Town. We are a traditional working wine farm with history stretching back more than two centuries. The Roos Family has been the custodians of this land for three generations. Our vineyards lie on the steep slopes of the ancient mineral-rich soils of the Bottelary Hills, where we produce a range of environmentally friendly wines rooted in tradition and artisan techniques.

The Tabakland vineyard was planted in 1992 where tobacco used to be cultivated. The vineyard is located 150m above sea level on a north-west facing slope in the Bottelary Hills of Stellenbosch. Gravel soil which offers less vigorous growth, together with sufficient heat due to the slope and altitude, lead to ideal ripening conditions.

Wine was matured for 24 months in small French oak barrels. 42% 1st fill, balance 3rd and 4th fill. 100% French oak.

Following our approach of minimal intrusion, the wine underwent only the slightest pre-bottling filtration, and no stabilization. A sediment is natural and to be expected
