Chapter Three Chenin Blanc

This wine is a perfect accompaniment to grilled fish, and chicken dishes.

Miles Mossop Wines burst onto the scene in 2004 when the first wines were made: Max 2004 and Saskia 2004. Max is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Petit Verdot and more recently Malbec and Saskia a blend of Chenin blanc Viognier and more recently Clairette blanche. Later in 2009 a third wine was introduced the Kika 2009 a botrytised wine made in the Noble Late Harvest style from 100% Chenin blanc.

This is a 100% Chenin blanc from a single 40-year-old bush vine vineyard in the Stellenbosch region growing on shale soils.

The fermentation is allowed to start naturally and once completed the wine was topped and matured sur-lie for 10 months with regular lees stirring.

The grapes were harvested at 22,4 brix on the 23rd February, picked into small grape crates and placed in a cold store overnight. The following day after bunch sorting the grapes were whole bunch pressed and the juice settled overnight before being taken to 400L French oak barrels for fermentation. 16% of the barrels used for fermentation were new oak barrels.
