Old Vine Chenin Blanc

This Chenin can easily be enjoyed on its own, but can also complement dishes such as smoked pork, Cape Malay bobotie, or creamy seafood.

Lievland’s history dates back to 1715, when the original farm was granted to the ex-soldier Jurie Hanekom. Lievland lies on the western slopes of the Simonsberg mountains between Stellenbosch and Paarl, two of the most prominent wine-growing areas in the Cape. The climate, location, and soil on the slopes are conducive to the cultivation of high-quality grapes, and some of the Cape’s best-known wines are made here. Lievland is all about "the here and now", and their wines are made in a generous fruit-forward, well-extracted style.

The old-vine bush-vine Chenin Blanc vineyards are located in the Agter-Paarl region. These dry-farmed vineyards sit on a basin of shale – the vineyards on the cooler, South-facing slopes produce grapes with pronounced stone fruit and flinty characteristics, while blocks located in warmer pockets produce concentrated fruit with intensity and texture.

Grapes were hand-picked and immediately crushed, de-stemmed and pressed. After overnight settling, the juice was racked off the gross lees and a small amount of fine lees was added back to give texture to the wine. The juice was then transferred to a combination of neutral oak (28%) and the rest in stainless steel.
