Sauvignon Blanc

This Chenin can easily be enjoyed on its own, but can also complement dishes such as smoked pork, Cape Malay bobotie, or creamy seafood.

Lievland’s history dates back to 1715, when the original farm was granted to the ex-soldier Jurie Hanekom. Lievland lies on the western slopes of the Simonsberg mountains between Stellenbosch and Paarl, two of the most prominent wine-growing areas in the Cape. The climate, location, and soil on the slopes are conducive to the cultivation of high-quality grapes, and some of the Cape’s best-known wines are made here. Lievland is all about "the here and now", and their wines are made in a generous fruit-forward, well-extracted style.

A relatively warm and dry start. Water retention in the soil was good due to a favourably wet winter, allowing the vines to ripen fully without excessive stress. Grapes were picked slightly earlier this year in separate batches for optimal flavour profiles. The grapes are grown on hillside vineyards in the cool-climate Elgin Valley on the Cape South Coast. Planted in 2006, the vineyards have an elevation of about 300m above sea level and are on predominately Sandstone.

Grapes are destemmed, chilled, and left in the press to slowly drain the free run juice. The berries are then gently pressed to extract the remaining juice. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. Reductive winemaking (minimal oxygen contact) preserves freshness and fruitiness, while a few month maturation on the lees gives additional complexity and integration.
