Mourvedre
This rustic, full-bodied wine has its origins in Spain. Mourvedre or Monastrell as it is sometimes referred, is often used as a blending component in well known wines such as Châteauneuf du Pape. Typical varietal characteristics include dark berry, plum, black pepper, violet and cured or gamey meats in an amalgamation which can make the wines appear reduced.
