The story of Nederburg is one of dreams disappointments sorrows and successes that for more than 200 years have made up the lives of the many men and women who have lived loved and laboured there. With the first vineyards planted around 1791 the founders of Nederburg were people of tremendous vision strength and courage - people who developed Nederburg from a bare patch of wilderness into one of South Africa's most eminent wine farms.

The Carignan grapes were sourced from old bush vines in Paarl, the Shiraz from trellised vines in the Groenekloof area, the Grenache from old bush vines in Wellington, the Mourvèdre from Philadelphia and the Cinsault from the Swartland. Each block was picked at optimum ripeness and separately vinified to add complexity to the eventual wine.

The wine was then racked and matured in 300-litre first- and third-fill French and American oak, for approximately 28 months. After careful barrel selection, the different components were racked from the barrel and blended.

The grapes were hand-sorted at the cellar and then fermented on the skins in stainlesssteel fermenters. Upon extraction of sufficient tannin and colour, the wine was drained from the skins.
